PHASE 1 Planning: Proposal + Budget
Community Service is a form of service learning. Service learning is basically using curriculum to help foster a sense of care and concern among students for their community and the world at large. This can be your village, an orphanage or a distant dying species. In the process of you recognizing and taking steps to meet the needs of others, you will enhance your creative, critical and reflective skills. More importantly this module will help develop your personal and social responsibility. You will learn through participating in a service experience and you will have the opportunity to use your skills and knowledge in real-life situations. You will be exposed to community needs and experience caring for another person and learn about the resources available to people for revitalizing their communities. Finally, students will have the opportunity to develop basic knowledge and skills in community service strategies, tactics, and techniques, including the art of volunteerism.
Week 1
MIB and project brief was given on the first day of class by Ms.Norji. There are three classes joining in this module, which are Diploma semester 5, Degree semester 2, Degree semester 3 and Degree semester 6.
From the project, we are designing a mini reading room to enhancing the reading interior for the children in Ulu Melaka Orang Asli Village where located at Serendah, Selangor, about 50 minute drive from the campus. From the information, the mini reading room which was already old and dirty. All the books and facilities was damaged and not enough usage for the children.
As a class representative of semester 6 interior architecture, i was responsibility to collect the information of whole classmates data like name, student ID, phone number and email. After collect all information i submit to Ms.Norji for easy communication.
So, throughout the project, Semester 6 was given the task as finding sponsorship.So, throughout the project, Semester 6 was given the task as finding sponsorship. All of us was divided into five group. For me, I was in charge in finding paint sponsor together with Janson and Aisyah.

Week 2
Starting paint group discussion between Aisyah and Janson. We listed down the sponsor that have possibilities to find. Besides that, we also discussed how are the ways to contact them.

For my part, i also try to look up for my internship company paint contractor to sponsor for the paint.

During this week, Mr.Edwin had gathered semester 6 and updated our sponsorship situation. He had a short brief on sponsorship letter and talking about how to asking for sponsorship.
Besides that, we also reported our situation and proposal about our own sponsorship.

Week 4
During this week, I starting to contact and updated their sponsorship about ICI and Nippon. First mind come inside my mind to find sponsorship was my internship company, CHI Design Sdn Bhd. So, i try to find the sponsorship from my internship company paint supplier. Unfortunately, they are rejected the sponsorship at the end. But i still try to managed to get others people to take part in the sponsorship.
By this time i try to contact Graphenstone, Kansai and Dulux. I kindly whatsapp them and also attached sponsorship letter to further information.

Through the keep follow-up, finally, i got find a sponsor which was KANSAI Paint. I was given the contact which was the manager of KANSAI Paint who named MS. Khiew. She was willing to help to sponsor the paints for our CSI module. I was happy and exciting when I finally did found a sponsorship. Besides, i would like to attach the evidence of finding sponsorship second time.

After getting the number from marketing executive, i quickly did the follow up in the same day.
I was sending all the information to Ms Khiew who was the manager of KANSAI Paint. I also did send a introduction of myself and the summary project brief and also what we need for sponsorship.
After few minutes, i saw she read and seen my message but didn't reply me.
From my opinion, maybe she was busy and tired, but i will get back and follow up her on next Monday since i dont want bother her on weekends.

This week, also a CSI presentation week. all of us are presenting the proposal and updated the latest news and situation about the sponsorship. Whole the presentation taking 2hr 30mins to finish. Thank you sir and ms for spending the time for us and willing to give opinions and helps to all of us.

Reflective Journal
Throughout the whole week, i was given the task of finding paint sponsorship. At first, I was scared and feeling lack of confident. This is because i was a coward person and i never requested a sponsorship from others. Another reason was, I am not a local person so it increase the difficulties of finding sponsorship again due to lack of social networking and people surrounding.
I really feeling desperate and helpless, but first mind come to my mind which was my internship company, CHI Design Sdn Bhd. I quickly contact my boss and marketing director for seeking help. I was happy and touching when they say they willing to ask their paint supplier which was ICI Paint and Nippon paint companies.
But after one week, i try to follow my internship company again, i get the news which was their suppliers was declined for sponsor. At that time i was totally upset and feeling dropping down under the valley.
Luckily, one of my classmates was seeing me upset and say she willing to help me. At night, she send the few contact of paint suppliers. I was happy that she really help me.
I try to What Apps them as soon as possible, and attached all the information as well as the sponsorship letter to them. After one day, one of them reply my message who was Kif Ng and saying he will forward the message to her manager. I was so happy that he willing to helps.
On the afternoon, i got the reply and answer which was "YES" ! I was totally feeling grateful and thankful to KANSAI Paint Sdn Bhd. Besides, Kif Ng also provided their manger contact to me, and saying to contact their manager for further information and details.
I quickly send all the information to her and waiting for her reply. But she didnt reply me although she already read my message. I will follow up her again on next week.
From this finding sponsorship journey. I find it still quite fun and exciting to me and also can count adventurous because i was putting myself down to ask for help. This is my time finding sponsorship and i learn a lots from it. Thanks for this module which giving me this opportunity to learn and grow. At this moment, i also understand there are no difficulties if you willing to give yourself involve in the sponsorship.
Week 5
During this week, I starting to update Ms Khiew about sponsorship. Luckily, she replied friendly and nice. She was asking me to provide lots of information as she need to know about the condition and situation of site.
I send her all the plans and information (photos and address). Besides, i also try to asking her some questions. I was trying to know where to get the sample color code of the paint.
On the other hands, she also asking me about the surface of the interior and exterior as she want to know what paint is suitable for the site and prepare the paint to us.
During the discussion, Ms Khiew throwing out a question. She was asking how many days we expected to do. When i was reply in 1 day, she was totally disagree and showing that the statement is impossible to complete. She reflect that on site, all the wall surface need to be pre preapre before stating to paint. A mean cleaning have to be done as it take some time to dry and clean.
After i send all the information, KANSAI Paint will provide the solvent based gloss paint. She mentioned that the paint will have strong smell and need to take one week to let the smell disappear.
On the other hand, she also mentioned about the weather. She say once the weather start raining all the painting jobs has to be stopped. So, she suggested that better to look at the weather forecast.

Besides, i also try to get all the area calculation for the area that we need to paint. So i try to reach out the group 2 and group 3 for further information. After i get it i will do a detail information about what we need for sponsor and send it back to Ms. Khiew.

Week 6
During this week, I can say is the busiest week for CSI paint sponsorship.
We need to rush everything and need to confirm amount sponsors from sponsorship.
First of all, i try to meet up the group 2 and group 3 for the wall painting area calculation. This is because it was really hard to discuss and communicate after we had try on WhatsApp. After that, we decide to meet up on Friday because on Friday we had a small meeting about paint matters and who held by Ms. Norji.
On the other hand, i also informed Kansai Paint Manager about i will send out a PPT about the detail brief of this project and amount of the paint that we need by providing the calculation. Besides that, i also questioning about how i get the paint from them. Is it self pick up or delivery provided? She answered that she will provided delivery to one place but not the kampung orang asli.
During the meeting on Friday, we had decided to go there to do the cleaning job before the date we start to do painting. This was because cleaning the old paint and wood stain need take time to removed. Besides, removal from paint are messy and also hard to clean up. So after whole discussion, we had made the decision to go there early one more time.
On the other hand, we also has a meeting in class. Our lecturer Mr.Edwin want to know our latest updated on our progression. We are presenting through PPT and let him know all the paint sponsorship progression.

Week 7
During this week, we are having a class to update our latest progression. During the class, each group was presenting 2 slides of power point for the latest progression. Mr.Edwin was saying paint group are doing excellent job. All of us are happy because sir was giving us affirmation on our jobs. Besides that, we are also discussing on others group poster and giving opinion on the design.
On the other sides, i also updated Ms.Khiew about the calculation between cement and wood as before i didn't mentioned clearly which part is wood and which part is cement. Furthermore, she also ask for the location where i need to send to. I was sharing her with the taylors lakeside campus block e address. Besides, she will confirmed again for the delivery timing to me again as she wanted to check for the stock availability.
Besides that, she also mentioned some of paint i need to pick up from the another Kansai Paint shop but located in Sunway where near to my campus.

Week 8
During this week, we are having another class for updating our latest progression. In the class, each group was reporting the latest progression to the project director and the lecturer, Mr.Edwin. Throughout the meeting we saying about the paint was confirmed and we can get some paint by this week. The Kansai Paint will provided the delivery to Taylor's University. During afternoon, we getting all the paint and put it in the class.
On the other hand, Ms.Khiew also mentioned to collect the remain 7 can paint at Sunway branch which named "Malware Hardware". She also tell me that she will update me again on stocks availability and inform me to self pick up later. Lastly, she also attached the list of colors and quantity of paint to me. I also checking the stock whether is it correct and match with the list or not. Luckily, is all correct.

Week 9
Throughout the week, i was update the remaining paint with Ms.Khiew again. She said she will updated me as soon as possible. Luckily, after 2 days, she informed and text me that the remaining paint are all ready to collect at Malware Hardware Shop. She also informed me about she will reach there around 1pm. So, at the end we discuss to meet at the shop at 130 pm.
After reach there, i saw Ms. Khiew was waiting and getting ready for passing the paint to us. We also taking a group photos with her when she passing the paint to us. On that day, Janson and Bryan was coming with me also to carry the paint. After getting the paint, we went back to campus and store the paint properly on shelf in E5.04 .

After settled all the paint, me and Janson are helping to put the notes on each paint for the Group 2 and Group 3 to know what type of paint is that and the paint is suit for what surface. Besides that, i also sending the PDF to them that MS.Khiew send to me before. From the PDF, it mentioned which paint need two layer and need base coat which primer sealer. I also asking the steps on how to paint the walls and explain to the group leader of group 2 and group 3.
Besides paint sponsorship, i also helping others group to do the works for CSI. I was trying out to help the stationery group to categorize and clean the crayon. Besides that, i also helping in categorize the color pencils also.

Week 10
During the week, it was a Hari Raya break. We are going to the site to do the phase 2 cleaning job. All the cleaning jobs are divided by group 2 and group 3. They are helping to clean the exterior wall and interior wall and also moving out all the old furniture and books.
Besides, we also doing the floor cleaning and done the epoxy coating on that day. For my own part, I was giving out the paint to both interior group and exterior group. I also explaining to them how to use the paint and steps to clean the wall. All the primer sealer and first coat paint was giving out on that day. Group 2 and group 3 will be in charge on transport all the paint to the site.

Week 11
During the week, i was involved myself to helping Bryan (furniture group) to go IKEA to buy furniture. On that night, our project manger Darren and Fiona was joining us also. We having a dinner there before we started to choose and confirm the furniture. Mr.Edwin was involving us to buy the furniture together. After he confirmed everything that we show to him. We start to move all the furniture to our trolley. At that night, Ms.Norji was also coming to help us loading some furniture and bring it to site on Phase 3 setup. After buying all the furniture, Mr.Edwin also treat us an yougurt ice cream after done purchasing. After enjoying the ice cream, we load all the furniture into three cars.

On the weekend, me and few of my classmates (Darren, Fiona, Aisyah, Janson, Jordan and Bryan) was going to the site to install all the furniture and helping other group in cleaning process.
Early in the morning, we gathering in campus and depart at 10am. The trip took around 1hr to reach there. After reach the site, we straight forward to assemble all the furniture. Around 3 hours, we finish assemble all the furniture. After that, i taking initiative to help other group to do the cleaning job like cleaning the moss, painting walls, carry books from car to library and cutting the weed at the entrance.
After helping them, i was feeling sadly because my shirt was stick by paint as well as my long pant. But however is it, i still feel proud and happy because of our teamwork, our hard-work, and our spirit. I am so excited to look forward to the launching day to hand over the mini library

Week 12
This week was very important week as it was the launching day and opening ceremony for the mini library. We will officially hand over the mini library to Orang Asli Kampung at Serendah. Early in the morning, i follow my project manager to reach there to set up some furniture and make some decoration for the mini library. I was helping them to hanging the bunting, balloons tied up and also helping in food preparation and cleaning the library. Besides that, i was helping to take care of the kids who coming the mini library. I was tying some ribbon on those kids hands to make them feel as a guest.
In the afternoon, i was in charge of doing the food preparation with some of my classmates. We also try to arrange the table and chair nicely for the afternoon opening ceremony preparation.
Around 230 pm, all the guest had arrived. My lecturer, Mr.Edwin was sending a welcome speech to all of them. Then, is my project manager, Darren giving a thank you speech followed by the representative of Yayasan Salam. On the interesting part, the group 6 was also presenting a video of the whole progress. After the ceremony, we having some refreshments for all the guest and students.
Around 400pm, i was taking initiative to clean up the table and rubbish. After cleaning, we having a group photo session before we leave. It was an important ya for all of us. Hard work really pay off. For me, i feel we did an amazing works to all the orang asli kids. To be honest, i really enjoy in this module. I hope in the future i can have more chance to participate more community service project among the society, especially for kids, not nationally but globally.

Reflective Journal
Throughout the whole project, i can say that it was amazing! All the joy and tears, the excitement, the expectation was exposed from my heart at the end of the day. From the project itself, i am really learning a lot things and trying lots of new stuffs. The biggest learning to me that was finding a sponsorship. This is because i never try to find a sponsor in life before. From the steps of sending sponsorship letter until follow up, i was totally white and blank minded.
From the beginning, I was scared and feeling lack of confident. This is because i was a coward and shy person. I was hard to express my opinion to words. Another reason was, I am not a local person so it increase the difficulties of finding sponsorship again due to lack of social networking and lack of familiar people surrounding.
Although I really feeling desperate and helpless, but i never give up. I try my best to find a sponsorship. So, i started from my internship company, CHI Design Sdn Bhd. and asking their paint supplier which was ICI Paint and Nippon Paint that interested in doing the paint sponsorship or not. But unfortunately, it ends up rejected.
Luckily, when i shared my difficulties, one of my classmates, Yan Cheng, was willing to help me. On that night, she send the few contact of paint suppliers. I was happy to get all those contact as i can try to ask one by one to them are they interested to become a sponsorship. I try to WhatsApp them as soon as possible, and attached all the information as well as the sponsorship letter to them. After one day, one of them reply my message and i get the answer which was "YES" ! At that moment i was feeling so grateful and extremely thankful to KANSAI Paint Sdn Bhd.
On the execution day, the paint play an important role. It gives the library a new ambiance and warm feelings. It brings a new life new hope to all the kids and also become an new attraction buildings in the village. Thank you Kansai Paint become our main sponsor in this community project.
From the learning outcome on execution day, i really learning a lot. i learn how to done all the preparation before the ceremony started. Besides, i also learn the procedure of how to organizing an opening ceremony. Other than that, i also learned how to take care of kids, how to communicate with the visitors and how to cooperate works with juniors. On that day, i was helping to hanging up the bunting, balloon preparation, cabinet installation and food preparation also. All the details are the experience that i never learned before. I really had opened my view of world. i hope the all the kids will like it and enjoy it, and most importantly is take care of it.
From this journey, I find it still quite fun although it was hard and feeling desperate at the beginning. Thanks for the module which giving me a new opportunity to learn and grow. At this moment, my heart was still touched when i see all our efforts and works done in those three months!
