Assignment 1 : Moodboard

TASK You are to prepare an individual compilation of research outcomes, findings, analysis, inspirational elements on an approved chosen local product or production which will be composed in a form of 2D (partial 3D) ‘Mood Board’ that expresses material, systems, flexibility, process, lighting, colours, textures, style and elements that will be used on the overall final design approach.

The chosen local product or production should be from the following category:

 Food

 Fashion (Fabric)

 Art (Visual & Performing)

 Product

I was chosen the rattan product as the design topic for this assignment because rattan is one of the most famous malaysia product. From the topic, i study the characteristic of rattan and try to make some research from the rattan in malaysia.

Assignment 2 : Site Exploration

As a group leader in this assignment, i try to lead my group mates to have a deep investigate on the site context and environment. After few tutorial with tutor, we summarize up and bring all the SWOT and UBBL reference into the site exploration. So, here are the board.

First board during presentation, but was given the comment from tutor which layout composition is not nice and neat. So, all of us decide to redo the whole board again.

Upgraded board with nice composition.

Assignment 3: Startup Garage

Rattan was be chosen as my main design in this garage. before starting to design the garage, i try to do some research about rattan, which it will be helping in my programming flow and define my target users, and also how to making profit from the rattan in the Melaka chosen site.

issue: Rattan products are not going popularity in recent years as they are limited to household product. Customers nowadays prefer modern materials for their furniture and household products. Rattan products must be innovated to capture the appeal of younger generation which emphasis very much on design and innovations. The “Teng” will combine rattan and modern elements into their products and even interior design. Idea for doing “Teng” interior will cooperate with rattan design to let users to experiment the spaces and investigate materials used to cooperate with rattan furniture and art installation.

Target users of this “Teng” will be industrial designers and artisans. In “Teng”, workshop will set for users to experience the process of making rattan products. Retail shop will be set for selling products. Collaborative room will set for users to have further discussion and projects.
